The petition, to be delivered on the first day of the new session of the legislature, demands that Vermont adopt a healthcare system which meets human rights principles and leads the nation in the adoption of universal healthcare.
Report: Vermont falls short of protecting economic and social rights
he Workers’ Center conducted 16 interviews with non-profit service providers between September and November 2010. The report concludes that the government cut essential services and jobs despite rising needs among Vermonters, therefore failing to protect economic and social rights, such as healthcare, housing, education, and work with dignity.
Vermont Workers Center holds protest of Arizona immigration law on Saturday
This Saturday, we are asking all people of conscience in Vermont to rally in solidarity with another human rights struggle- the struggle against Arizona’s recently enacted SB1070, a bill which encourages local law enforcement to stop people based on the color of their skin. SB1070 criminalizes entire communities (including Indigenous peoples, the only non-immigrants in the U.S.) in order to enforce an unjust and unworkable immigration policy.
