“Congress should be leading the way in making environmentally sound business decisions,” Welch said. “The decision to replace environmentally-friendly utensils with Styrofoam is a major step backwards. Using Styrofoam is outdated, environmentally harmful and hazardous to people’s health. McDonald’s saw the light 20 years ago and stopped using Styrofoam.”

Welch fights to protect energy efficiency programs in House spending bill
The Energy and Water Appropriations Act of 2012 (H.R. 2354) cuts the energy efficiency budget by 27 percent. Impacted programs include fuel efficient vehicle technologies, bio-refinery research and development and home weatherization assistance. Welch’s amendment would have restored funding to 2011 levels.
Welch targets Afghanistan nation building program in Pentagon spending bill
“It simply makes no sense to be spending $2 billion a week on nation building in Afghanistan when there are fewer than 100 Al Qaeda in the country and Americans are struggling to make ends meet,” Welch said. “Terrorism is a real threat, but it is decentralized not nation based. CERP projects are an integral part of the failed nation building strategy in Afghanistan. This is a common sense place to cut unnecessary Pentagon spending.”
