Douglas requests disaster declaration for Vermont

On December 7, the Governor requested a joint Federal, State and local survey of the damaged areas. Preliminary assessments indicated the most severe impacts were to Chittenden, Franklin and Lamoille counties, although affects of the storm were apparent in every county. Approximately 38,000 to 40,000 customers lost power; two emergency shelters were operational from December 1 through December 4; and widespread infrastructure damage was sustained.

Fairbanks: Election Day 2010, myths and realities

A majority of Americans eligible to vote won’t even show up at the polls Tuesday. Heck, they barely show up for presidential elections. Some of the races for Senate, Congress, governor and down-ballot may be decided by wide margins, but most will probably end with the victors getting about 5 to 6 percent over the vanquished. So, while the results may be profound in terms of Democratic seats lost, this is not the Vox Populi.
