Nulty: Vermont, the guinea pig state
Vermont is being made a “guinea pig” for a new, unproven wireless technology. Of course, the main “lab technician” executing this experiment, VTel, chose not to inflict it on its own subscribers—for them, it chose fiber. No wonder: Nobody would administer experimental drugs to their own family members if there are better, proven versions available.
Pulcer: Keep the governors race honest and clean
If you are sick and tired of the same old campaign ad horror film sound tracks and scary candidate mug shots, then I urge you to send a message to Mr. Dubie and Mr. Shumlin. Please sign my petition.
Allen: McCarthy, Dubie and the phantom lists
Sen. Joseph McCarthy never made his list public, but repeatedly insisted it was real and it named card-carrying Reds who threatened the security of the United States. History guesses, but cannot prove, that McCarthy’s list never existed.
Ellis: Hey you — in the media — get over yourselves
The media need to stop hiding behind that old canard of objectivity and cover this race. Any more objectivity out there and we won’t know who to vote for.
Evslin: Governments hate deflation — should we?
If inflation stays low, our deficit will be much more apparent. Hidden debts like pension promises will be even harder to fund. If you believe, as I do, that we need to deal with these problems anyway, then it’s better to have them in the open.
Coutermarsh: Shumlin brags about his NFIB zero rating
Most of Vermont’s workers are employed by small businesses; and the majority of all new jobs created are by small businesses. Members of NFIB/VT encompass every business sector across Vermont including farmers and foresters.
McClaughry: The renewable industrial complex
So here it is in a nutshell. Shut down the nuclear plant. Impose higher costs on fossil fuel electricity. Hand out grants and tax credits to subsidize producers to produce higher priced renewable energy. Require the utilities to buy that energy at prices up to six times that of nuclear electricity. If this isn’t enough, have the state borrow to keep the game going.
