News Release — Sen. Patrick Leahy
Sept. 27, 2013
Registration is open for Vermont’s 17th Annual Vermont Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference, to be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. The free conference, presented by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, draws hundreds of women from around Vermont who want to hone their business skills, polish their résumés or explore new career possibilities. This year’s conference will feature nearly 30 morning and afternoon workshops, including a range of offerings designed to help participants make better use of social media.
Patty Stonesifer, a former Senior Vice President at Microsoft and founding Chief Executive Officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will be this year’s keynote speaker. Ms. Stonesifer recently took on a new and challenging role as President and CEO of Martha’s Table, a Washington-based nonprofit dedicated to meeting the needs of low-income and homeless children, families and individuals working to break the cycle of poverty. Her tireless work was recently featured in profiles in The New York Times, The Washington Post and on National Public Radio. Longtime Vermont journalist and producer Fran Stoddard will lead a discussion with Ms. Stonesifer, followed by a Q-and-A session with audience members.
