The Vermont State Employees Association, which represents roughly 5,000 state workers, distributed Frisbees, fly swatters, tote bags and tape measures to members at its 69th annual meeting. On two of those items, the VSEA phone number was misprinted. The difference of one incorrect digit in the area code — 800 instead of a 802 — means callers are sent to a sex hotline instead of union headquarters.
VSEA spokesperson Doug Gibson said the vendor made the mistake and will reissue the union swag with the correct number. Gibson said he found nothing newsworthy or humorous about the mishap, and, more noteworthy than the typo, was the fact that all of the products are American-made and union-made.
The number advertised on two of the items was 1-800-223-5247. When called, an automated voice bills the line as “America’s hottest talk line” and directs ladies to press 1 to “talk to interesting and exciting guys for free” and men to press 2 to reach “hot ladies waiting to talk to you.”
