CERF+ Recognized by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

CERF+ (Craft Emergency Relief Fund + Artists’ Emergency Resources) was recognized for its preparedness work with artists and arts organizations with two honorable mentions in the categories of Innovative Training and Education Programs and Promising Partnerships for FEMA’s Individual and Community Preparedness Awards. Annually the awards, previously known as the Citizen Corps Achievement Awards, recognize the innovative practices and achievements of organizations and individuals that work to make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to manage any emergency situation.

“While we have been working on preparedness in the arts sector for a number of years, we are a relative newcomer in the larger emergency preparedness community,” said CERF+ Executive Director, Cornelia Carey. “Needless to say, we are honored and thrilled to receive this recognition having competed with nearly 200 excellent projects of organizations and agencies from around the country.”

CERF+’s innovative training and education programs are centered on the Studio Protector®: The Artist’s Guide To Emergencies, a two-part toolkit consisting of an interactive wall guide and a comprehensive Online Guide. The toolkit provides vital information on both emergency preparedness and recovery geared to the needs of art careers that are centered on a studio practice. The Studio Protector was created by CERF+ as a project of the National Coalition for Arts Preparedness and Emergency Response , a leadership group committed to resource development, educational empowerment, and public policy advocacy that CERF+ has spearheaded since its inception in 2006. CERF+ has consistently worked in partnership with national, regional, state, and local agencies and organizations in its efforts to promote a model of emergency resilience for both artists and arts organizations.

CERF+ is a national artists’ service organization whose mission is to safeguard and sustain the careers of craft artists and provide emergency resources that benefit all artists. CERF+ accomplishes its mission through these programs and initiatives:
 Emergency Relief
 Emergency Preparedness & Recovery Resources
 Emergency Preparedness Educational Programs
 Artist Preparedness Campaign
 National Coalition for Arts Preparedness & Emergency Response
 Research on the Needs & Status of Working Artists
