  1. Yeah, I am nervous about this too. if the chamber of commerce is for this plan, that has me scared.

  2. I think I understand the 1% position now. . . Competition is good. Monopoly is better.

  3. In the Green Mountains, power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts Green Mountains absolutely.

  4. It is important to question why that meeting might have been poorly attended (little visible announcements), and to note that Additional comments will be accepted by the Clerk of the Board, Vermont Public Service Board, 112 State Street, Montpelier, VT 05620-2701; fax: 828-3351; or at psb.vermont.gov/docket-sandprojects/public-comment

If you have an opinion, let it be known.

Personally, I’m concerned about Canadian corporations owning so many Vermont Utilities (and Banks, BTW)

AS per Dennis Kucinich, Public Utilities should belong to the PUBLIC!

  5. An oligarchy of Canadian energy companies is taking over New England’s energy sector because it has the resources to do so and we don’t have, or we are unwilling to commit, the resources to stop them.

Subsidizing renewables will further weaken New England’s resource position, because scarce funds are diverted from more productive investments that do not need subsidies to be profitable, and because higher electric rates paid by households and businesses will reduce living standards and profits.

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
