  1. And you can bet a good portion of that $80 million will come out of the hide of the Vermont state workforce, much to the glee of the public. While Shumlin shields his big donors from having to pony up their fair share he continues his public war with the Vermont state workforce and Vermonters are just loving it. I guess everyone needs someone to hate but why hate the people that fix your roads, plow your snow, teach your children and keep your state government running? Whats even worse is that the Shumlin administration has fostered and encouraged this hatred for political advantage. What a farce.

  2. Notice how the State talks about how much they pay for State worker benefits but conveniently forget the $5 million of the State’s share of the retirement fund that was shifted onto State workers, or the 3% pay cut, or the fact that State workers’ pay is still frozen. All of these sacrifices made by State workers are completely taken for granted because the State knows the public is foaming at the mouth to bite into public employees even more.

  3. $10 million for autism spectrum coverage for children up to age six? The JFO estimated the cost to be less than $200k.

Why isn’t this coverage required by all health insurers?

  4. Arthur,
Autism is required coverage for private health insurers. It is not required for the public system because it is too expensive. So the Legislature voted it in and then last year voted it out. Imagine what will happen when we provide Health care for all and the debt’s moount? What other disorders may not get funded or get cut back?

    1. Jim, I have CIGNA and two children with austism disabilities. It is not covered. – Arthur

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism.
