  1. Actually the State got much more than a 3% concession from State workers. State workers took a 3% cut, but also took a two year freeze of steps and COLA. The State also reduced it’s contribution to the State workers’ retirement by $5 million thanks to State workers agreeing to pay another 1.3% of their pay into the plan.

Meanwhile the State failed to take advantage of revenues available from the richest few Vermonters due to the extension of the Bush tax cuts. I hope Mr. Reardon’s memory lapse doesn’t forebode further plans to continue to balance the State budget on the backs of State workers.

  2. Everyone should read and re-read Tom Pelham’s recent piece here on Digger to be reminded that Vermont budget ‘cuts’ are often not as portrayed by media and politicians.

However, Reardon seems to be proposing actual spending cuts. Let the gnashing of teeth begin!

  3. Once again, it is the helpless and the poor that are going to suffer from this,

  4. Is there a url whereby one might access the States Receipts & Outlays on a monthly basis???

The Federal Govt affords same eight [8] working days after the close of a month. I would think a 30 day span would suffice in terms of local criteria. It would remove an enormous impediment in terms of trying to parse the path
of the dollar particulars. As I have lamented previously in this forum “I have a checkbook mentality”

For example I never could quite get my arms around “Last year lawmakers and the Shumlin administration closed a budget gap of $176 million with a combination of one-time and base cuts”. But, if I could be advised of how many
dollars came in and how many went out in a given month
I suggest one and all would be afforded a sense of the course that has been chartered. I find the Se$$ion ending confluence very complicated, it brings me back to my Lone Ranger days “Who was that masked man?” as everyone rides
    off into the sunset.

Come Wednesday it appears that we shall be $1.3 trillion
shy on the Federal side of the ledger beating last year’s operational loss [aka Deficit] of $1.29 trillion by a tad.

Again, I would be appreciative if someone could point me to the States’ url.

Here’s where you can find a part of what you seek. This url

    http://www.leg.state.vt.us/jfo/revenue_tax.aspx

provides monthly revenue information for the general, transportation, and education funds on a cash basis, profiling year over year actuals and current year in comparison to estimated. There is no equal on-line link for special funds, federal funds, and the other funds profiled here
    http://www.leg.state.vt.us/jfo/appropriations/fy_2012/FY08_-_FY12_Total_Appropriations_Comparison_COC.pdf

However, this last link allows you to see the actions of the legislature and governor relative to their approved expenditures for all funds. Regarding “budget gaps”, here’s a piece

offering my views on that. Tom

  6. Please raise taxes by 220 million and hold developmental services and ahs harmless. Close nursing homes, Close VSH. Reinvest in community based care. Sell state landmarks.
The disability community cannot take anymore budget cuts.
Lets make investments in affordable housing , Tax cuts dont create jobs!!! Investment in public services does!!!!
