  1. God, I wish that we did not have to wait until 2012 to close this jalopy of a nuclear plant.

  2. I’m wondering after the shut-down or “coast down,” what will happen to the nuclear waste stored in temporary containers at the plant. I remember some years ago (07?) reading that Vermont Yankee had permits to store the waste for 20 years, but with the failure to build a federal respository that stuff could sit there for 70 or more years in tanks that were build to last 20 years. There are plants around the country with the same issue. Anyone know the situation with that?

  3. Sharon, I’m glad you asked that question. I just finished reading an article entitled “Fukushima and the Battle for Truth” by Paul Zimmerman. You can easily find it online.

There is a book entitled “Betrayal of Mankind by the Radiation Protection Agencies” which should be ordered for your public library. The public safety issues require a well-informed people. I checked Amazon.com and the book is being blocked. You may have to order it outside the US.

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
