  1. Remarkable

234 members of Congress actually voted to bring back styrofoam!?

Was there any debate? If so, what possible justifications were offered for this change in policy?

Public school teachers should use the CSPAN footage as teaching aids. Block all references to the year and ask the kids in what decade they think the debate occurred.

  2. AMAZING … after engaging on lie based attacks against the then national level group ACORN, after spending years actively supporting the DC Democratic Surrender Machine … Welch now wants to deal with (insert gasp of amazement here) STYROFOAM!

What happened to environmental protections, voter protections, ending wars, a fair tax code, human rights over corporate rights and so many more good progressive causes?

Oh – that’s right, Welch (like fellow DC Democratic Surrender Machine partners Leahy and Sanders) isn’t really interested in those topics. He’d rather have some pretension to DC power I guess.

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
