  1. Best and smartest thing i’ve seen in years and years.

  2. thanks; I had the plesasure of working on the research team and I couldn’t agree more

    one correction, however
you said “a 5 percent increase in local food consumed by Vermonters could add 1,500 jobs to the states economy”

actually, the estimate is that 1,500 new jobs would be created from a 5% increase in production (farming, food manufacturing, etc.)

  3. William,
Well stated. I encourage you and others to also look into the new broad-based and nonpartisan Vermont Working Landscape Partnership.

The Partnership kicked off with the State House Summit in December and is building support for a Five Point Action Plan that will help the Farm to Plate platform as well as other efforts to keep our landscape working. This new initiative of the Vt Council on Rural Development already has over 300 people signed on. Learn more and add your name to the growing list at http://www.vtrural.org

  4. Makes me proud to be a Vermonter! It has always been the strength of the people, whether native born or transplanted as I have, that make something like this work. You guys rule…

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
