  1. Dave is the perfect person for this post. I know him. For the first time in eight long years we will have a person genuinely concerned about the welfare of Vermonters and not farming out the services to private contractors. Dave’s a great guy. Perhaps his loss to Wexman is a blessing in disguise, though I do not think of it that way as I wanted him to win, as he will have a huge and much-needed impact on this department that is so much in need of someone like Dave.

  2. This man Dave Yacovone sounds perfect for the enormous job. Working with Doug Racine who also cares deeply about child poverty and healthcare issues, perhaps Vermont’s children will not go to bed hungry, perhaps their families will have the support they need and deserve and I, for one, volunteer for whatever he has in mind to do locally! 3. Not to worry, Ann. David has a huge heart and and practical brain to match it. He is the inspirational leader we need in the heart of government service to rally this organization into a spirited team. I join you in offering to help him in any way I can.

  4. It’s going to take Racine and Yacavone a long, long time to clean up the mess that they have inherited from the outgoing administration. But, as you say, they do care deeply about what has been happening and will change it.

  5. We need a Medicaid \wonk\ and I want to meet someone who understands the needs at the local level. Someone who will put the child’s needs at the hub of the wheel and see that the spokes are the agencies that must work together. The school can’t do it all, Medicaid can’t do it all, and private insurance must do more! I am looking forward to working with Racine and yacovone.

  6. Go, Dave Go! We are thrilled Gov-elect Shumlin put you where you are. Everyone will benefit. Bethany

Comment policy

VTD requires that all commenters identify themselves by first and last name. You may wonder why we don't accept anonymous comments. The short answer is: We want to keep the discourse civil.

You might rightly ask, since most online newspapers accept anonymous posts from readers, what makes VTD so special?

The long answer is: Anonymous comments don't support our mission. We are a nonprofit news organization dedicated to enhancing democracy through in-depth journalism. Our role is to foster a civil online discourse, and one very simple and effective way to do that is to require commenters to identify themselves. This isn't a new idea, of course. This is the way newspapers have treated letters to the editor since time immemorial.

As a result of our comment policy, VTD has created a safe zone for readers who want to engage in a thoughtful discussion on a range of subjects. We hope you join the conversation.
