Texas judge orders delay on new rules for nuclear waste dump
Two Texas environmental groups stepped into the fray – and into an Austin courtroom — on Thursday morning and effectively ground the proceedings of the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact Commission to a halt – for the time being.

O'Neil will serve as director of Vermont Emergency Management
O’Neil served as Chief Engineer and Emergency Management Director in South Burlington prior to taking a similar post in Burlington. He also serves as an instructor in fire investigation, incident management, emergency response to terrorism, and more. O’Neil was deployed to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav in 2008 and the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti earlier this year.

CVPS increases Shareheat donation to $120,000, appeals for donors
“With the economy still on the rebound, donations to Shareheat are lagging this winter, but the need remains very high,” CVPS President Bob Young said. “We decided to immediately jumpstart the effort by making $4,000 contributions to each of the five community action agencies that participate in Shareheat, and to appeal again to the public. Vermonters are facing heating crises every day, and we want to ensure no one goes cold for lack of funds.”
Legal Aid negotiates plan with DCF to resolve benefit delays
Legal Aid had threatened to sue the Department for failing to timely process applications for public benefits. After several weeks of negotiations, Legal Aid announced that the state now has a plan to help Vermonters access the benefits they need in a timely fashion.
Recchia named deputy secretary of ANR; Snyder tapped as commissioner of Forests, Parks and Recreation
Recchia, who is currently Executive Director of Biomass Energy Resource Center in Montpelier, has 27 years of environmental management experience; Snyder has been a Chittenden County forester with the department since 1997, a lecturer with the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, and a columnist with Northern Woodlands Magazine.
