I began running for governor over one year ago to win the general election to prevent a continuation of the confrontational approach of the current administration. At this time in our history, while Vermonters are holding on to their values, they are raising their families, trying to create a better future.
And they are worried.
I announced I was running before Jim Douglas decided not to run because after fixing problems and balancing budgets of over $4 billion, I am tired of driving from the back seat. Government runs better when it begins with concrete, thought-out proposals rather than sketchy ideas with nice names.
A Dubie administration will be a continuation of those policies. Many people are watching the democratic primary to decide who can beat Brian Dubie to lead Vermont through these difficult times into a future with good jobs, affordable health care, great schools and lower property taxes.
They want a prosperous Vermont that reflects the core values that we share.
I bring to the table 18 years of experience in understanding not only the state budget, but also all of the policies of state government. As Chair of Appropriations for 10 years, I bring to the table years of reaching across the aisle to craft solutions while upholding our Democratic values.
It has become obvious as I travel the state and participate in forums, that I am the candidate that knows all the issues and how they interact. I have a proven ability to build bridges between competing political and special interests to balance the needs of all Vermonters. I can walk into the governor’s office with little or no learning curve.
I am the only candidate who can gain the support of moderate, independent voters with my pragmatic approach to government that gives everyone a seat at the table.
In the past 8 years I have watched good democratic candidates fail to win the governor’s office. Why have they failed? Because they have failed to appeal to the majority of independent, moderate Vermonters. Of all the candidates running for governor, I am the person who best represents the majority of Vermonters. My election track record and my voting record is that of a centrist democrat, like Howard Dean.
I have something to offer all Vermonters, the experience, the leadership style and the temperament to lead Vermont. I have the values that we all share of hard work, working together, lending a helping hand to those in need and a strong sense of personal responsibility to leave things better than I found them.
Vermont has lots of cheerleaders. Almost all the people who live here and most of our visitors sing her praises. What I offer in as governor is experienced leadership to balance all the needs of Vermonters and a vision for the future that includes everyone in the discussion. With the help and votes of Vermonters I will be the next governor.
