Free Women’s Clinic
Barre, Vt – The first in a series of six free Women’s Clinics will be held at the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic on Thursday May 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., by appointment only. To make an appointment call 479-1229. The Clinic is co-sponsored by Central Vermont Medical Center and People’s Health and Wellness Clinic.
The clinic will provide physical exams including breast, pelvic and pap tests, as well as breast care education. Each woman will also meet with a social worker to advise her about health insurance and patient financial assistance eligibility. There are also limited funds available for child care to enable women to attend the clinic.
In addition to providing basic health services for uninsured and underinsured women, this program, funded in large part by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, focuses on getting women insured. Access to health insurance is key to increasing the rates of early detection of breast cancer. Most breast cancers are not diagnosed from a screening mammogram. Other tests or interventions are usually required to diagnose and treat cancer. Helping women to obtain insurance means that there will be a way to pay for these needs beyond the initial imaging.
For more information or to make an appointment, contact the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic (PHWC) at 479-1229. PHWC is located at 553 North Main Street in Barre.
