Burlington, VT – The Center on Disability and Community Inclusion at UVM, and the Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council welcome applicants for a new Vermont Leadership Series.
This two-weekend training series is designed for people with disabilities, family members and community members interested in developing leadership skills to become better advocates for disability rights. The first training weekend will be held April 30-May 2, at the Bishop Booth Center on Lake Champlain in Burlington, and another in October at a location to be announced. Ten applicants will be selected for this first series.
The sponsors are looking for self-advocates, family members and others who want to promote equal opportunity and disability rights in Vermont communities. Participants do not necessarily need to be able to read or write, as long they can share their ideas and work with others for community change.
“So many people have a vision they want to share or a project they would like to carry out. This series will give new leaders the tools and support they need to create resources or confront stereotypes and barriers that get in the way of equal opportunity and inclusion,” said Deborah Lisi-Baker, associate director of the Center on Disability and Community Inclusion at UVM.
